Key Highlights

Learning AWS Efficiently While Saving Costs

Challenges Faced by AWS Beginners

Speaker Huynh Thai Linh discussed common concerns among AWS beginners:

  • Worrying about exceeding AWS budgets.
  • Forgetting to clean up resources after practice sessions, leading to unexpected charges.
  • Fear of extra costs when experimenting with AWS services.
  • Lack of a safe environment for hands-on learning.

Proposed Solutions

AWS Cloud Quest
  • A free hands-on learning platform provided by AWS.
  • Allows learners to complete practical AWS labs.
  • Uses gamification to make learning more engaging.
  • Includes leaderboards that encourage learning through friendly competition.
Floci
  • A local AWS service emulator.
  • Supports testing and practicing AWS services without deploying to real AWS environments.
  • Helps reduce costs during learning and development.

Comparison Between Floci and LocalStack

Advantages of Floci mentioned during the session:

  • Faster performance.
  • Lower memory and storage consumption.
  • Good compatibility with AWS services.
  • More favorable licensing and pricing model.

However, Floci also has several limitations:

  • Supports only a limited number of AWS services.
  • Some services return fake or mock results.
  • Not completely identical to the real AWS environment.
  • Cannot fully replace actual AWS services.

Hackathon Journey and Award-Winning Project

Speakers

  • Huynh An Khuong
  • Mai Quoc Anh
  • Nguyen Tran Minh Quan

Main Topics

The speakers introduced:

  • The concept of Hackathons.
  • Benefits of participating in Hackathons.
  • Skills that can be developed through technology competitions.
  • Teamwork and product development experiences under tight deadlines.

SynthHunter Project

The speakers introduced SynthHunter, a project developed during a Hackathon that achieved excellent results in the competition.

During the presentation, they shared:

  • How the project idea was formed.
  • The development process from concept to implementation.
  • Team collaboration and task distribution.
  • Challenges encountered throughout the project.
  • Valuable lessons learned from participating in Hackathons.

System Architecture

In addition to presenting the project, the team provided an overview of the system architecture, how different components were organized, and how the product was built within the limited timeframe of the competition.

This session helped me better understand the process of developing a real-world technology product and highlighted the importance of teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills in competitive environments.
